Nearly 50 attendees had the virtual meeting coordinated by Fundación 99, expert organization in implementing innovative teaching practices, and special schools María Alicia Ponce from San Francisco de Mostazal and La Solidaridad from Mulchén. For two hours, administration staff, teachers, teaching assistants and the Foundation’s team discussed and reflected about the pedagogical practices implemented in both educational communities in situations of confinement due to COVID-19.
The two educational centers emphasized that they not only have provided written material for their students, but have also connected through WhatsApp, phone calls, zoom calls, home visits and have even taught classes over community radio stations. In this way, they keep the pedagogical bond but also cultivate the emotional one with their students and the families. “Thanks to the workshops that Fundación 99 has conducted we have been able to stay up-to-date with ICT tools and maintained communication”, said Victor Amigo, director of the special school La Solidaridad.
“It’s been hard, but I think we have the team capability to become more robust and make the best decisions together”, Mirta Tapia reflected, Maria Alicia Ponce special school’s principal. Both schools are implementing the Comunidades de Aprendizaje pedagogical innovation Project, guided by Fundación 99’s accompanying teachers; an unprecedented progress for special schools. This Project is currently implemented in almost nine thousand schools in seven European and Latin American countries.
